Heroes

(Mick Kennedy)

The Lone Ranger and Tonto

 Were riding the range

 "Kemo Sabe" said Tonto

 "You've been acting strange

 Since we crossed the border

 Just three days ago

To head for the Great Plains

 Of New Mexico............"

 "Oh Tonto", said the Ranger

 "My spirit is worn

 Never felt so darn tired

Since the day I was born

 My heart it feels heavy

 With sadness and grief

 And I'm starting to doubt

 All the things I believed.....

 Oh I'm starting to doubt

 All the things I believed....."

 "Now you and me Tonto

 Go back a long way

 It's over two hundred years

Since we first passed this way

 The country was young

 And the prople were free

 Everyone helped each other

 To gain Liberty......."

 "But now it's all greed

 And no-one will share

And the warmth of the campfire

 Is no longer there

 That damn Route Sixty-Six

 Took the romance away

 And to-morrow will just be

 Another long day........

 Oh to-morrow will just be

 Another long day........"

 "Ranger" said Tonto

 "Maybe you're right

 It's been a long time

And it's been a hard fight

Now it's no place for old men

 Like me and like you

 No place for justice

 No place for truth.............."

 Now the Ranger and Tonto

 Have hung up their reins

 No more adventures

 Across the Great Plains

 No more champions for justice

 No more seekers of truth

 They've passed in to legend

 As all heroes do...............

Oh they've passed in to legend

 As all heroes do...............
